AFTER LONG SILENCE 长寂之后 -William Yeats 威廉 叶芝

  Speech after long silence: it is right,
  All other lovers being estranged or dead,
  Unfriendly lamplight hid under its shade,
  The curtains drawn upon unfriendly night,
  That we descant and yet again descant
  Upon the supreme theme of Art and Song :
  Bodily decrepitude is wisdom: young
  We loved each other and were ignorant.

THE FALLING OF THE LEAVES叶落 - William Butler Yeats (1865-1939)

  Autumn is over the long leaves that love us,
  And over the mice in the barley sheaves;
  Yellow the leaves of the rowan above us,
  And yellow the wet wild-strawberry leaves.

  The hour of the waning of love has beset us,
  And weary and worn are our sad souls now;
  Let us part, ere the season of passion forget us,
  With a kiss and a tear on thy drooping brow.

THE SORROW OF LOVE爱之悲痛 -W.B. Yeats

  The quarrel of the sparrows in the eaves,
  The full round moon and the star-laden sky,
  And the loud song of the ever-singing leaves,
  Had hid away earth’s old and weary cry.

  And then you came with those red mournful lips,
  And with you came the whole of the world’s tears,
  And all the sorrows of her labouring ships,
  And all the burden of her myriad years.

  And now the sparrows warring in the eaves,
  The curd-pale moon, the white stars in the sky,
  And the loud chaunting of the unquiet leaves
  Are shaken with earth’s old and weary cry.

A Dream Of Death 死亡之梦 -William Butler Yeats

  I DREAMED that one had died in a strange place
  Near no accustomed hand,
  And they had nailed the boards above her face,
  The peasants of that land,
  Wondering to lay her in that solitude,
  And raised above her mound
  A cross they had made out of two bits of wood,
  And planted cypress round;
  And left her to the indifferent stars above
  Until I carved these words:
  《She was more beautiful than thy first love,》
  《But now lies under boards.》

A POET TO HIS BELOVED 诗人致爱人 -William Butler Yeats (1865-1939)

  I bring you with reverent hands
  The books of my numberless dreams,
  White woman that passion has worn
  As the tide wears the dove-grey sands,
  And with heart more old than the horn
  That is brimmed from the pale fire of time:
  White woman with numberless dreams,
  I bring you my passionate rhyme.

  THESE ARE THE CLOUDS云彩 --W. B. Yeats (1865-1939)

  These are the clouds about the fallen sun,
  The majesty that shuts his burning eye:
  The weak lay hand on what the strong has done,
  Till that be tumbled that was lifted high
  And discord follow upon unison,
  And all things at one common level lie.
  And therefore, friend, if your great race were run
  And these things came, so much the more thereby
  Have you made greatness your companion,
  Although it be for children that you sigh:
  These are the clouds about the fallen sun,
  The majesty that shuts his burning eye.

  THE OLD MEN ADMIRING THEMSELVES IN THE WATER
                                           --William Butler Yeats (1865-1939)

  I HEARD the old, old men say,
  ’Everything alters,
  And one by one we drop away.’
  They had hands like claws, and their knees
  Were twisted like the old thorn-trees
  By the waters.
  ’All that’s beautiful drifts away
  Like the waters.’

  He Mourns For The Change That Has Come Upon Him And His Beloved, And Longs for The End Of The World
  William Butler Yeats (1865-1939)

  Do you not hear me calling, white deer with no horns?
  I have been changed to a hound with one red ear;
  I have been in the Path of Stones and the Wood of Thorns,
  For somebody hid hatred and hope and desire and fear
  Under my feet that they follow you night and day.
  A man with a hazel wand came without sound;
  He changed me suddenly; I was looking another way;
  And now my calling is but the calling of a hound;
  And Time and Birth and Change are hurrying by.
  I would that the Boar without bristles had come from the West
  And had rooted the sun and moon and stars out of the sky
  And lay in the darkness, grunting, and turning to his rest.

  A Drinking Song 饮酒歌 --William Butler Yeats

  WINE comes in at the mouth
  And love comes in at the eye;
  That’s all we shall know for truth
  Before we grow old and die.
  I lift the glass to my mouth,
  I look at you, and I sigh.

  爱入眼;

  WHEN YOU ARE OLD 汝老时 -William Butler Yeats (1865-1939)

  WHEN you are old and grey and full of sleep,
  And nodding by the fire, take down this book,
  And slowly read, and dream of the soft look
  Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;

  How many loved your moments of glad grace,
  And loved your beauty with love false or true,
  But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you,
  And loved the sorrows of your changing face;

  And bending down beside the glowing bars,
  Murmur, a little sadly, how Love fled
  And paced upon the mountains overhead
  And hid his face amid a crowd of stars.

  To An Isle In The Water 前往水中岛 --William Butler Yeats (1865-1939)

  Shy one, shy one,
  Shy one of my heart,
  She moves in the firelight
  Pensively apart.

  She carries in the dishes,
  And lays them in a row.
  To an isle in the water
  With her would I go.

  She carries in the candles,
  And lights the curtained room,
  Shy in the doorway
  And shy in the gloom;

  And shy as a rabbit,
  Helpful and shy.
  To an isle in the water
  With her would I fly.

  To A Child Dancing In The Wind
  --W. B. Yeats (1865-1939)

   DANCE there upon the shore;
  What need have you to care
  For wind or water’s roar?
  And tumble out your hair
  That the salt drops have wet;
  Being young you have not known
  The fool’s triumph, nor yet
  Love lost as soon as won,
  Nor the best labourer dead
  And all the sheaves to bind.
  What need have you to dread
  The monstrous crying of wind?

  A Cradle Song 摇篮曲 -William Butler Yeats

  THE angels are stooping
  Above your bed;
  They weary of trooping
  With the whimpering dead.
  God’s laughing in Heaven
  To see you so good;
  The Sailing Seven
  Are gay with His mood.
  I sigh that kiss you,
  For I must own
  That I shall miss you
  When you have grown.

  THE VALLEY OF THE BLACK PIG黑猪谷 -William Butler Yeats

  The dews drop slowly and dreams gather; unknown spears
  Suddenly hurtle before my dream-awakened eyes,
  And then the clash of fallen horsemen and the cries
  Of unknown perishing armies beat about my ears.
  We who still labour by the cromlech on the shore,
  The grey cairn on the hill, when day sinks drowned in dew,
  Being weary of the world’s empires, bow down to you,
  Master of the still stars and of the flaming door.

  夜露缓降梦聚集;

  303 The Pity Of Love 爱之怜悯 -William Butler Yeats

  A PITY beyond all telling
  Is hid in the heart of love:
  The folk who are buying and selling,
  The clouds on their journey above,
  The cold wet winds ever blowing,
  And the shadowy hazel grove
  Where mouse-grey waters are flowing,
  Threaten the head that I love.

  Where My Books go 我书之去向 -William Butler Yeats

  All the words that I utter,
  And all the words that I write,
  Must spread out their wings untiring,
  And never rest in their flight,
  Till they come where your sad, sad heart is,
  And sing to you in the night,
  Beyond where the waters are moving,
  Storm-darken’d or starry bright.

  Youth And Age青年和老年-William Butler Yeats

  MUCH did I rage when young,
  Being by the world oppressed,
  But now with flattering tongue
  It speeds the parting guest.

  The Fish 鱼 -William Butler Yeats

  ALTHOUGH you hide in the ebb and flow
  Of the pale tide when the moon has set,
  The people of coming days will know
  About the casting out of my net,
  And how you have leaped times out of mind
  Over the little silver cords,
  And think that you were hard and unkind,
  And blame you with many bitter words.

  THE LAKE ISLE OF INNISFREE 湖岛 --W.B.Yeats叶芝

  I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree,
  And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made;
  Nine bean rows will I have there, a hive for the honey bee,
  And live alone in the bee-loud glade.

  彼处建小屋,粘土糊柳条;

  And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow,
  Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings;
  There midnight’s all a-glimmer, and noon a purple glow,
  And evening full of the linnet’s wings.

  清晨降薄雾,蟋蟀声声唱;

  I will arise and go now, for always night and day
  I hear lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore;
  While I stand on the roadway, or on the pavements gray,
  I hear it in the deep heart’s core.

  叠叠音湖水,震震波岸上;
