Hello, Mr. Rice.
This is John, from our rental service agency.
I have good news to tell you.
0h, hi, John, I 'm listening.
You said you want to rent a house in Columbus.
Check this out.
This house is located in Portland Street, so it's within driving distance to your work.
There are three bedroom unities available, and you do not have to worry about your two kids.
You may even use one bedroom as the guest room.
The house is 1035 square feet, so I guess it's big enough.
You know, John, I just want to rent the house for, like a year or so.
Sure.
You may rent the house on a monthly basis.
The rent is 790 US dollars per month with one extra month rent as deposit.
Gas is included in the rent.
The house is newly painted with fairly new appliances including a washer, a dryer, air conditioning,
cable etc.
It has a large basement, too.
That sounds lovely.
I have enough space for my rock collections.
Besides, it's close to Walmart and a high school.
So, all in all, I think it s an ideal choice.

If you have found an apartment you love,
but the financial burden is huge,
you may ask if there are something you could do to lower the rent.
For example, cutting the lawn, sweeping the common areas, etc.
If you find a good apartment but it lack services such as utilities,
laundry facilities, cable TV and internet access,
ask the landlord to throw some in at no charge.
Or, you could offer to sign a longer term contract
or give a higher deposit in exchange for more services.
Finally, please do not forget the following tips or warnings.
If the building allows pets, don’t be surprised if you have to pay extra damage security deposit.
If you feel that the landlord is refusing to rent to you because of your age,
nationality, sexual preference, or physical handicap,
you could always choose to report it to the local housing office.

Homestay or host family accommodation is
a very good choice for international students.
It Provides a wonderful opportunity for speaking English
with native speakers outside the classroom.
We offer four types of homestays:
budget accommodation,standard accommodation,
superior accommodation and executive accommodation.
They vary to some extent according to the location and price of the house.
However, I guarantee that all homestays are located near stations or bus routes.
You have easy access to the center of London.
Besides, the rooms you live in are clean and comfortable.
They will bo cleaned and bed linen and towels changed at least once a week.
Concerning the meal plans, you could choose the one that suits you best.
The host family tends to provide breakfast and dinner.
You could also cook our own cuisine with the permission of the house owner
Public transport connections from most airports to London are excellent.
Still, we can arrange airport pick up and drop off if required.

What are the problems that you 've been having?
Well, no one thing is really dangerous or anything, but you know, it's just been building up.
Yes, of course.
Well the first thing is the washing machine.
It's been leaking a little and it's beginning to get worse.
Because we have a small child, we really need to get that done straight away.
OK ... That's a washing machine for immediate repair.
And then there's a niggling problem with the cooker ... Ah ha ... The door's broken.
Right.
It's nothing serious and it can be used, but if you can send someone over in the next couple of weeks or so,
that 'd be great.
Fine, I 've got that.
Then we are worried about all the windows.
Are they broken?
No, but there are no locks on them and you know with the insurance these And when would you like those done?
Oh, that's not really urgent ... but you never know when there's going to be a break in ... No,
we 'll get those done for you next week.
do not worry.
And then there's the bathroom light ... it's getting quite annoying.
It flickers quite badly and it's giving me headaches.
I 'd really like to get that replaced right away.
That's no problem.
And then the last thing on the list is the kitchen curtains.
They 're torn.
Oh, right.
We do have quite a few spare ones in stock and can get those to you in the next week,
if that's alright with you?
Yes, that 'd be fine.

Do you think we ought to give some historical background?
Oh, no...definitely not...We won't have time!
OK...but I think we ought to say something about the geographical location,
because not a lot of people know where the islands are.
Yes. OK. I'll take notes, shall I?
Yeah, that'll be a help.
So... geographical location.
Then, we ought to give an overview of the whole education system.
Shouldn't we say something about the economy...you know agricultural
produce... minerals and so forth?
Well... Dr. White said we shouldn't go into that sort of detail. .
But ifs pretty important when you think about it...you know because it does influence the education system...
Look... let's think about that one later shall we? Let s see how we re doing for time ...
OK... so... general overview of education.
Of course... and then the role of English language...
Nope... that goes in the Languge Policy Seminar... don't you remember?
Are you sure?
Positive.
All right... so those are the topics we're going to be... to be covering...

Good morning. Sorry to have to get up so early.
We are going to have a very tight schedule today.
So, get ready for your unforgettable tour here in London.
We are about to go to Windor Castle and Stonehenge.
Your tour starts at the home of the royal family for 900 years,
and the world’s largest and oldest occupied castle—
Windor Castle. You will see beautifully decorated apartments and St. Geroge’s chapel.
You will also witness the changing of the guard. The second tourist spot is Stonehenge.
It is a collection of stones dragged to the plain 5,000 years ago. Who built it? Why?
These questions have haunted the minds of people for centuries.
Probably you will find the answer on your trip.
We are going to depart at 8:45,and that means you have 10 minutes to go to the bathroom and then get on the coach.
Again, we will leave at 8:45 sharp.

World travel can be cheap and easy.
In fact, with a little practice and effort, you can travel the world for free.
It can be very scary to venture into the world with nothing more than optimism and good will,
but personal freedom begins with a leap of faith.
First of all, embrace the simple joy of travel.
Travel frees you from the burden of daily routine.
You will explore new places, meet new people, try new food and earn things about the world and yourself that you never imagined were possible.
The joy of new experience is the most wonderful thing about travel and new experiences are free.
Walk the streets of a city.
Stop and chat with a local.
People watch in a public park.
Climb to the top of a hill and watch the sun set over the ocean.

Secondly, keep your needs to a minimum.
The modern economy is built on the false premise that people need to buy new goods and services all the time.
It is wrong.
What people need is fresh air, clean water, healthy food, creative stimulation, companionship, self esteem and a safe place to sleep.
That's enough.
Trust people and you will receive free food and lodging.
Many people are willing to open their homes to travelers.
Chip in with a few chores and they will give you a free meal, too.
Use some online networks to help you connect with local hosts.
If you have skill, such as cooking, animal husbandry, massage, musical ability or basic carpentry, you can barter for free food and accommodation as you travel.
The slower you travel, the easier it will be to work out a mutually beneficial arrangement with a local community or host.

Customer: And what about the other things?
You know, that are included in the price.
Receptionist: Oh, there are lots of things.
If you don’t want to do the whale watch cruise,
your guide will take anyone who is interested
either on a bushwalk through the national park near the hotel,
and there’s no extra charge for that, or on a fishing trip.
That's in extra $12 I think. And there’s also a reptile park in town—
that costs more or less the same.
Customer: No, I think I’d prefer whales to snakes.
Receptionist: Yeah. And if you just want to relax you are free to sit by the hotel pool
or go down the beach. Oh, and they also have tennis courts at the hotel,
but you have to pay for those by the hour.
But there are table tennis tables downstairs
and they’re part of the accommodation package.
Just speak to the guide.

Female: I heard your nephew went to London Gym School. How about it?
Male: To tell you the truth, I think it is not like the place I used to imagine. I picked up my nephew several times at the school and had the chance to see what the Gym School really is.
Female: I’m thinking of sending my oldest kid there as well. Could you tell me more?
Male: First of all, it is a very cozy place. Kids of various age levels go to different courses. But all the pupils there should develop their balance, flexibility and coordination skills.
They have 3-4 years program, 5-7 years program and 8 + years program.
For 3-4, the child is encouraged to experience what gymnastics really is.
These little fellas are not accompanied by their parents or guardians.
They follow the Pre School Proficiency scheme.
They are taught to run, jump, land, balance and roll correctly and safely.
For 5—7, this level is centered on raising flexibility, posture, strength, and developing routines.
Female: My oldest kid is 8. What program do you think is suitable for him?
Male: The 8 + program. But I am not sure about the proficiency scheme because your kid has not participated in any previous gymnastic programs before. This is the card of the school, you may call...

For most athletes winning is everything.
Phrases like" nice guys come last" and" there are no prizes for second place" underline the competitive spirit and will to win that consume most  athletes.
However here in the UK we also have a soft spot for gallant losers; those sportsmen and women who put themselves forward even though they have little or no change of competitive success.
The most famous British heroic loser is undoubtedly Eddie, the short sighted plasterer who represented Britain at the 1988 Winter Olympics in the ski jumping competition.
Eddie entered the event despite having no funding, ski boots that did not fit him, and being barely able to see the end of the jump due to his much needed glasses fogging up.
Needless to say, he finished last in every competition but won the hearts of fans all over the world for his endearing optimism and never say-die spirit.

Now, we've also put together a map which we've sent out to all the residents in the area. And on the map we've marked the proposed changes.
Firstly, well plant mature pine trees to provide shelter and shade just to the right of the supermarket in Days Road. In order to address the traffic problems, the pavements on the corner of Carberry and Thomas Street will be widened.
This will help to reduce the speed of vehicles entering Thomas Street.
We think it's very important to separate the local residential streets from the main road. So the roadway at the entry to Thomas Street from Days Road will be painted red.
This should mark it more clearly and act as a signal for traffic to slow down. One way of making sure that the pedestrians are safe is to increase signage at the intersections.
A "keep clear" sign will be erected at the junction of Evelyn Street and Hill Street, to enable traffic area to install traffic lights half way down Hill Street where it crosses Days Road.
Now haven't only thought about the cars and traffic, of course, there's also something for the children.
We're going to get school children in the area to research a local story, the life of a local sports hero perhaps, and an artist will incorporate that story into paintings on the wall of a building on the other side of Hill Street from the supermarket.
And finally, we've agreed to build a new children's playground which will be at the other end of Hill Street close to the intersection with Carberry Street.

Everybody settle down! First of all, may I have your assignment, please? Thank you! Now let’s pick up where we have just left off.
In the previous lecture, talked about the Renaissance period…
Good evening, Miss. How many are you? Three?OK. There is a table available near the window. Do you want to order right now? Here’s the menu.
May I recommend the chef’s specialty: home-made onion soup and then to follow, Scottish Salmon garnished with the chef’s own special dressing.
Right,Mr. Baines. Now open up and wide. A bit wider. That’s good. Now let’s have a look.
The filling needs redoing. Right bottom there is chipped. Ah, there is a little piece of food trapped here.
Yes, now you were complaining of a pain here on the upper left. Yes, we are going to take an X-ray.
Good morning ladies and gentlemen. On behalf of Captain Kirk and the crew, welcome to this British Airway flight to New York.
In accordance with international regulations, the cabin staff will now demonstrate procedures
Good morning Madam. Did you realize that your car is parked on a double yellow line? This is no-parking area and you are disrupting the traffic. I’m afraid I’m going to have to give you a parking ticket.
Yes, the trousers are a bit tight, sir. Let me bring you a larger size to try on. Um, a 34 waist should do it. The jacket is a perfect fit, isn’t it? The dark blue really suits you.
I’ll just go and check if we have a larger size in stock.
Just love that record! A golden oldie from the 60’s by the “the kinks” that one was especially for Tony Lynn for his birthday from his friends at Manhattan.
Hope you enjoyed that one. Tony, and you just have a wonderful birthday. OK, you’re now on Easy Music 57.6 FM.
Nearly there, sir. It was Long Road, wasn’t it? Here we are, number 43, I’ll just park behind the lorry. Right, that’ll be 10.2 please. undefined
