After a nine-year memorable NBA career, the All-Star center, Yao Ming, officially confirmed his retirement from professional basketball at a news conference in Shanghai, his hometown and also where his remarkable basketball journey began on July 20.
拥有9年NBA生涯的全明星中锋姚明，于7月20日在他的故乡，也是他非凡职业篮球生涯开始的地方，上海，正式召开新闻发布会，宣布退役。
In an eight-minute statement，Yao briefed his basketball journey from a teenager to a professional player. He thanked the sport of basketball, as it not only brought him pleasure and success, but also helped him meet Ye Li, his beloved wife.
在8分钟的陈述发言里，姚明简述了自己从十几岁开始的职业篮球运动员生涯。在发布会上，他说他感谢篮球运动，因为它不仅给自己带来了快乐和成功，还帮助自己认识了深爱的妻子 叶莉。
The Houston Rockets center is a household name in China since Yao becoming the top NBA draft pick in 2002. He played for the Rockets for nine seasons, but missed 250 regular-season games over the past six years due to injury. A stress fracture in his left ankle cut short his career.

He revealed at the press conference that he is now planning to get training in college and will likely be involved in more investments in the future.

Looking forward, Yao, who turns 31 in September, will be involved in charity through the Yao Ming Foundation and other businesses with friends.
