The Queen’s Birthday long weekend is on Saturday 30 September, Sunday 1 October and Monday 2 October. It is also the first weekend of the school holidays. And the AFL Grand Final is on Saturday.
Instead of my normal last minute ‘what’s on this week’ post I thought I’d do a summary of what’s on then, so that you (and I!) are prepared!
The highlights…

King’s Park Wildflower Festival, on from Thursday(28/9) till Monday(2/10), small entry fee.
Perth Royal Show opens on Saturday(30/9) and continues till Saturday 7 October.
Springtime at Araluen ends on Monday (2/10).
Perth Fashion Festival starts on Thursday 21 September and is on till Saturday (30/9).
Araluen Folk Festival is on the whole weekend in Roleystone.
Wave Rock Weekender at Hyden (340km east of Perth, get tickets and more info BEFORE driving there!!).
York Jazz Festival at York (100 or so kms east of Perth) seems like it will mostly be happening on Saturday and Sunday. There is a market, bands all around town, and a special concert in the Town Hall on Sat night. Camping is available, contact the visitors centre for all the details.
Springfever (beats and bass music) at Fremantle Arts Centre on Sunday.
Parklife (dance music festival) on Aberdeen St in Northbridge on Monday.
Circus Joseph Ashton is at Kingsway Shopping Centre from Friday (29/9) to Sunday 22 October.
Shaolin Kongfu, Lion Dancing and Circus is on at the Perth Convention Centre with shows on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Walk the Zig Zag at Gooseberry Hill on Sunday (shuttle busses from Maida Vale and Kalamunda), see details on the Kalamunda Shire website, with link to pdf.
Pride Festival, starts on Sunday with a community fair in Northbridge and is on the whole month.
Friends of Thomas The Tank Engine Day at Whiteman Park on Sunday (1/10).
The Boy From Oz with Hugh Jackman is happening at the Burswood Dome from Friday (29/9) to Monday (2/10). Tickets still available, best availability for Monday.
Apart from this list of the bigger events, there’ll be the usual concerts and markets, many of which are already in the calendar, and you can expect additions.
