This novel is written by the American author F. Scout Fitzgerald. He is a famous modern American writer called “the spokesman of the Jazz Age”. Most of his works describe the expectation and disappointment of the American young generation.
Gatsby was the famous, wealthy, mysterious man. But when he was young, he lived in the low class. He loved an beautiful rich girl who named Daisy. They fell in love,but they could not get marriage, because they were living in different class. Then the World War I occurred, he had to leave. Daisy married an rich man Tom.Though Daisy did not love Tom, she liked better life, for example, she liked beautiful clothes, talking with people in upper society and so on. After the World War I, Gatsby came back. Now he was an rich man. He had a big house and many servants. He wanted to find Daisy and recover the love between Daisy. But he found his lover married a rich man, he believed that he maight make Daisy happy. So he took may ways, such as holding party every night and inviting many rich people. At last Daisy’s husband found the love between Daisy and Gatsby. One day Daisy drove car with Gatsby, but she hit her husband’s mistress. Then she went away, so the woman died. Daisy was scared and decided to leave Gatsby. The woman’s husband found Gatsby and shoot him. On the Gatsby’s funeral，Daisy did not come.Daisy and her husband had a trip to Europe.
I want to know what is love in this novel. On one hand, Daisy loves Gatsby. But she doesn’t sacrifice her identity and better life. So she is a contradictory girl. She abandons her lover for herself. On the other hand, I think Gatsby sacrifices a lot for Daisy. He pursues American dream for living with Daisy. So he tries his best to become rich even do something illegally. When Daisy hited Tom’s mistress, he decides to admit.this is why he died. Why love is not equally? Gatsby does not return Daisy’s love. I think that it is beacause people are not feel satisfied in their life. They want to get everthing.
American dream is an important idea in this novel. Gatsby also has an American dream. What is the American dream? The American Dream is the idea that it is held by many people. They think they will get rich and success though working hard and struggling. But Rome is not built in a day. America is not a fairyland. American dream contains the material and the spiritual. People ,like Gatsby, it is easy to get rich, but it is differcult to get into upstair class.?
Gatsby is a young man who has his own dream, although he is poor. To face the suffer society, he doesn’t give up. And he still has an ambition to his life. In addition, he pursues his love. People should never give up. This is what I learned from this novel.
