this sentense "有人邀请你参加“Potluck Party”时，你会不会空手赴宴？" remind me a story when i was young. (of course it's in chinese). at that time, a friend of mine is going to have a birthday party and invite me to take part in.  she emphasize that i don't need to give gifts to her . so i am very apprehensive. i  don't know to send her the gift or not.  if everyone give her gift, but i don't have. may i be laughed at? so after a few hours, before i go to the party, i decided to hide my gift into a bag, if others give her gifts, i will never to too different.
